1/31 movie review
This movie was very good. I liked the fact that the president actually had great character. It shows how much struggle it is to be president of the United States and even how hard it was for all of his colleagues. Even one little decision can make you lose a whole campaign. It was hard for the president to be a normal person. He couldn't even order flowers for his girlfriend, and even having a girlfriend was difficult. It showed how hard it was to take care of out country while having a personal life. His decisions couldn't be based on what made him happy, but what made him have more votes. In the end, he did what he felt was right, and stood up for what he believed. Even if he didn't get the votes that he needed. I believe he was right in saying that being president was about character. Even if you try and fake a good character, people can see through it. Especially being publicized the way presidents are. Just because people make certain decisions doesn't make them have a bad character, though. He decided to pass a crime bill, to get more votes, but knew it wasn't the right decision. The other bill was the fossil fuel bill.
1/30 and 1/31
The president likes this woman who is a political strategist named Sydney. At first, she doesnt think it's a good idea for them to date because he's so powerful and busy. The people start questioning whether having a girlfriend will affect his presidency. Everyone says that having a girlfriend questions his presidency. The press will not leave Sydney alone, and the other presidential candidate keeps making false accusations. He agrees to a crime plan and that does not go over well with Sydney. The president gets sick of the other candidate bringing his personal life into the campaign. He throws out the crime bill and him and Sydney stay together.

The State of the Union address is a speech annually given by the president. He speaks to congress about his agenda for being president and also how the nation is presently doing. President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union speech from 9 p.m to 10:17 p.m on January 24. He focused on creating new energy sources, improving education, and using expenses that were formerly used on the war wisely.
He stated that he would like Universities to find a way to lower the cost of higher education. He believes everyone should be able to afford college. He calls on the states to require kids to stay in school until they're 18 years old.
I agree on kids having to stay in school until they're 18. I also agree on his plan to have higher taxes for wealthier people.

1/25 State of Union
Obama has stated that he wants to make the prices for homes lower by reducing interest rates. He plans to make up for the money by making some kind of fee on banks. Obama says that oil production is at an eight year high, and we are depending on foreign countries for less than 50% of our oil. Republicans wanted Obama to allow a pipeline to go from Canada to Texas for more oil, but Obama did not speak of this controversy.

It is too hard for me to trade and get products from other states. They are taxing our goods and we are taxing theirs, the prices are getting higher and higher. Not only that, but our ships keep getting raided by pirates. None of us want congress to have so much power, though.
Since congress had to have 9 out of 13 states agreeing, they could not change the articles.
They could not tax anything, they could not regulate trade, and they could not raise an army. None of the states really complied with the congress.

1/24 GPS tracking
It was ruled yesterday that GPS tracking now needs a warrant. According to our fourth amendment rights, we are protected against unfair search and seizure, which some people believe GPS tracking falls under. Now law inforcement will need warrants to place a GPS on suspected vehicles.
I believe in this decision. It is your private right to go where you please. When they attach a GPS to your car, they are violating your freedom. If they cannot search a home without reliable evidence, they should not be able to track somebody's driving schedule without evidence.

1/23 Articles of Confederation
What was it? The articles are like a set of rules to keep the thirteen states in line.
Why was it created? The Articles of Confederation was created to unite the thirteen states into a kind of friendship.
What were its main features? It's main features were the rights to people. How much freedom we get and how to treat other people.
Why did it have these features? So we could keep all the states in peace, and have no argument on what is right or wrong, and how to run things.
The weakness in this as a plan of government is we have a lot of freedom according to the constituion. The government is basically set out to control us and what we pay or do, and basically they couldn't. They couldn't tax us, and the national government couldn't force states to do anything.
Article number 2. Article number 5. Article number 1. Article number 10. Article number 12.
The articles caused failure of the government because it states that the will of the people are the basis of the articles.

British scientist have discovered a way to stop genetic diseases that could be passed on to children from their birth parents, by technically adding another parent. The third parent would not pass any genetic material on to the offspring. They hope to show that this is a safe and effective way of preventing many diseases. I believe that if successful, this method is a great thing.

1) What do you know about the U.S government? I know about the amendments. We have to pay taxes. We have a president. There are three branches that share powers. They can overpower the president.
2) What do you think about the U.S government's role in our society? They control us, and how much money we actually get. A lot of people hate the government, but they do keep our society in check.
3)What would you like to learn or feel you need to know about our government? I feel I need to know exactly the process of passing laws, and I need to know more about each branch and even all the different positions of people in the government.

Pros: You can use the First Amendment to protect yourself. His verdict can be appealed.
Con: I could get abused online and no one would get in trouble! There is little chance of the verdict getting appealed.

1/19 all civics
On January 18, 2012, many sites protested a bill trying to be passed to stop piracy. There was a blackout, with many sites. This means they just blacked out their websites, and Google even had a link where you could sign a petition against the bill. I understand that piracy is a big problem, but I also understand people needing to express their opinions and information.

I do not agree with the judge in this case. Yes, he has freedom of speech but he has no right to harass people like that. If I went around telling people to kill themselves, I could get in serious trouble. Just because it was over twitter makes it no less serious. It is wrong, and he should have been charged.
